EVENTS 2007-2008
PAST EVENTS
April 2 JOSIE KEARNS/DANIELLE LAVAQUE/JOE MATUZAK
Originally from Flint, Josie Kearns and Joe Matuzak are poets who will remind you why you go to live word events. Both recipients of multiple Creative Artist Grants from the Michigan Council for the Arts, Josie has also won an NEA; she’s the author of New Numbers and Life After the Line, and her work is highly anthologized. Joe’s work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies, and he is the former director of ArtsWire (NY Foundation for the Arts). Danielle LaVaque-Manty’s stories have appeared in Glimmer Train and Northwest Review. She earned an MFA at Ohio State (and rumor has it she’s got something to say about women in science and technology via the UM Press). It’s been a great ride with rapids and rock star writers, but the best thing about WIP has been the audience. Last ship sails at 7.
MARCH EVENTS
/march 5/ STEVE WOODWARD and DELIA DECOURCY
Two new fiction writers in cahoots with shifty names and malfunctioning families, full of stories you haven’t heard. Delia hails from the mountains of Virginia, where things don’t always work right. In this picture, Steve has parked an unreliable truck in white space. We think that means Minnesota.
/march 26/ JENNIFER METSKER and DAVE KARCZYNSKI CANCELLED
Jennifer Metsker (painter and poet) is currently working on a series called “Better Off Without,” and teaching at the University of Michigan. Dave Karczynski will be reading an excerpt from his novel-in-progress, Kanadia, a metaphysical picaresque set in a fictional country located to the north of the United States, more or less.
